Question: I used to be so against gay and lesbians, but now i think that i'm a homosexual?
(Posted by: Avonlea on 2010-03-07 06:50:51)
My religion and father says that homosexuality is very bad unnatural, and that those people are going to hell (Not as harshly but he is disgusted by it). When I was younger, I would listen to things my parents said and believed in, I still do, but I've come to realize that his view is some- what closed minded. Homosexuality is with all sorts of animals, and has been dated to go on for thousands of years (they can't go all the way back to see), and there has probably been homosexuals since the beginning of time. I'm not a rebellious or naughty girl, either. I'm actually only thirteen, and I hang around good, intelligent people. Is this normal that I thought it was bad and was disgusted so much by it, and now that I'm older I think that I am bisexual? Thank you. |

It's normal that what you were taught. but now that your becoming more intelligent and more informed you know different. here is something to think on. Jesus says nothing about same-sex behavior. The Jewish prophets are silent about homosexuality. Only six or seven of the Bible's one million verses refer to same-sex behavior in any way; none of these verses refer to homosexuality as it's understood today The bible is a book about God, not on sexuality. Leviticus 18:6 reads: "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female. It is an abomination. " Leviticus 20:13: "A man who sleeps with another man is an abomination and should be executed. " Just below the surface of these words is the deeper truth about God -- and it has nothing to do with sex. Leviticus is a holiness code (list of behaviors that people of faith find offensive in a certain place and time. In this case, the code was written for priests only, and its primary intent was to set the priests of Israel over and against priests of other cultures) written 3,000 years ago. This code also includes prohibitions against round haircuts, tattoos, working on the Sabbath, wearing garments of mixed fabrics, eating pork or shellfish, getting your fortune told, and even playing with the skin of a pig. (There goes football!!!) Jesus and Paul both said the holiness code in Leviticus does not pertain to Christian believers. Nevertheless, there are still people who pull the two verses about men sleeping together from this ancient holiness code to say that the Bible SEEMES to condemn homosexuality. The Bible also says that sex with a prostitute is acceptable for the husband but not for the wife. Polygamy's acceptable, as is a king's having many concubines. (Solomon, the wisest king of all, had 1,000 concubines.) Slavery and sex with slaves, marriage of girls aged 11-13, and treatment of women as property are all accepted practices in the Scriptures. There are strict prohibitions against interracial marriage, birth control, discussing or even naming a sexual organ, and seeing one's parents nude. The Bible has been misused to defend bloody crusades and tragic inquisitions; to support slavery, apartheid, and segregation; to persecute Jews and other non-Christian people of faith; to support Hitler's Third Reich and the Holocaust; to oppose medical science; to condemn interracial marriage; to execute women as witches; and to support the Ku Klux Klan. Shakespeare said it this way: "Even the devil can cite Scripture for his purpose. " Source(s): the bible = ] |

Nope many of us were raised to believe this bull**** and I did for a VERY LONG time.. until eventually I woke up and smelled the coffee.. I realized I was about as interested in women as I was in sports.. Then I realized that my father was just a closed minded a******.. even going so far as to tell me he would rather his kids (us) be dead than gay (years ago).. needless to say we don't get along or see much of each other these days.. I get along just fine with about every other member of my family though |

*high fives the fellow religious bisexual* WOOT! Haha. If homosexuality was really that bad, Jesus would have said something about it. He never did. And, when read in context in the original Latin/ Hebrew, the passages that 'talk about homosexuality' are actually talking about Pagan idol worship and male prostitution. What people can't seem to get through their thick skulls is that there is NO Hebrew OR Latin word for 'homosexual' (or sodomy). None whatsoever. And the whole 'man lying with man' refers to idol worship (I believe it was the Baal fertility rituals). And none of the Bible passages refer to homosexuality as it is understood today (as the other dude said). God wouldn't create us just to condemn us to Hell. |
