Question: The difference between gay and lesbian?

If a girl like likes a girl, and a guy like likes a guy, the girl could be called a lesbian AND gay, but the guy would just be called gay...why don't we call gay guys lesbians? P.S. I'm not homophobic...I'm the exact opposite...I just want to know...

It's just how the word evolved over time. gay used to mean happy and homosexuals thought it would bring a more positive vibe if it was used as such. so it is interchangeable for homosexuals. lesbian is a different story. it's a much older word and its meaning has been around longer then how we have been using gay lately. it's probably latin or something that refers to women.. and you can't refer 2 men to have a woman word.. but you can refer 2 women to have a newer invented more general word

Lesbian is a term derived from a Greek island called Lesbos. A female poet named Sappho lived on the island and wrote poems about the sexual intimacy between two women. That's why lesbian is strictly used to describe gay women.
